# Tallinn free-time activities — 5, 6 and 9 August 2026

**For:** Stian Håklev and Lage Thune Myrberget
**Windows:** Wednesday after arrival; Thursday after HARNO; Sunday all day
**Live-checked:** 4 August 2026

## The short answer

1. **Wednesday evening: Jaakko Eino Kalevi at Paavli Kultuurivabrik.** This is the best newly found event: a Finnish multi-instrumentalist mixing psychedelic pop, synth electronics, cosmic disco and experimental rock, in Paavli's outdoor Garden Sessions. Doors/listed start 19:00; regular tickets were still available at **€25** on 4 August. [Official ticket page](https://fienta.com/et/jaakko-eino-kalevi-paavli)
2. **Thursday: choose Kumu or the free Nõmme concerts.** Kumu remains the best study-visit choice and is open until 20:00. For an actual local summer evening, Tallinn's free **Muusikalinna lavad** stage in Nõmme has MUBA students at 18:00, **Maarja Aarma duo** at 19:00 and a DJ at 20:15. [Official city programme](https://huvi.tallinn.ee/sundmus/muusikalinna-lavad-2026)
3. **Sunday evening: The Cure.** Their first concert in Estonia is at the **Unibet Arena Quarter**, with Estonian zither-and-voice duo **Duo Ruut** and Finnish accordionist **Antti Paalanen** as guests. Doors 18:00, programme 19:00. On 4 August the €75 and €85 general-admission tiers were sold out; **€95 GA** and **€125 fan-zone** tickets remained. [Official ticket page](https://www.piletilevi.ee/en/tickets/C2QLJFKGYR/the-cure)
4. **Sunday afternoon before The Cure:** either the free Nõmme concert ending with **NOËP acoustic at 16:00**, or Telliskivi's **Tallinn Food Truck Festival** with 50+ trucks, concerts and DJs. Do not try to do every museum and both events.

## Wednesday 5 August — arrival and a real night out

The flight lands at 11:35. Allow roughly 60–90 minutes for baggage, transport and dropping bags before committing to the afternoon.

### Recommended sequence

- 13:45–15:15 — Estonian Children's Literature Centre, or a long lunch if arrival runs late.
- 15:30–17:15 — Vabamu **or** Kalamaja Museum; one good visit is better than racing through three.
- 17:15–18:15 — early dinner / reset.
- 19:00 — **Paavli.Live: Jaakko Eino Kalevi**, Paavli tn 7. Regular €25; youth €15; supporter €40. Tickets were live on 4 August. The event is a good first-night choice because it is musically distinctive, mostly language-independent and located in one of Tallinn's more interesting independent cultural venues.

### Strong non-concert alternative

- **18:00–19:00 — English public tour of the KGB Prison Cells**, Pagari 1. The 50-minute tour costs €15 adult / €13 reduced and is paid on site. It is explicitly scheduled for 5 August. [Vabamu event page](https://vabamu.ee/en/events/public-tour-at-the-kgb-prison-cells-4/)
- This pairs naturally with the Old Town and dinner, but conflicts with a relaxed transfer to Paavli. Choose one.

### Do not plan around

- **Marcus & Martinus**, Helitehas, 19:00: both regular and VIP tickets are sold out. Only use an official release or reputable face-value resale if this is a special priority. [Official listing](https://www.piletilevi.ee/en/tickets/MQYLWUHRMV/marcus-)
- **Birgitta Festival / _Cyrano de Bergerac_: not a 2026 event.** The search-visible programme for 5–6 August is the festival's 2024 programme left on its website. The city announcement identifying those exact works and dates is dated 1 August 2024, and there is no 2026 ticket listing or live programme. The old trip research treated the stale page as current; that has now been corrected.

## Thursday 6 August — after HARNO at 14:30

All three choices below are feasible from HARNO at Tammsaare tee 47. Pick one coherent strand.

### A. Best study-visit choice: Kumu

- 15:15–16:30 — Under and Tuglas house museum **only if pre-arranged**, or Vilde Museum.
- 17:00–20:00 — Kumu: see _Triumph of Galatea: Art in the Age of Artificial Intelligence_ first, then the permanent Estonian collection.
- Dinner in Kadriorg afterwards.

### B. Best local summer-evening choice: free music in Nõmme

This is geographically excellent after HARNO and especially after Under–Tuglas.

- 18:00 — MUBA music-school students
- 19:00 — **Maarja Aarma duo**
- 20:15 — DJ
- Venue: Vabaduse Park stage, Sihi 98, Nõmme
- Admission: **free**

The programme is part of Tallinn's new neighbourhood concert series rather than a tourist event. Bring a layer and treat it as a park evening; the official page does not promise seating or weather cover.

### C. Best compact English-language event: PoCo

- **18:00–19:00 — “Women are pop!”**, an English themed tour of PoCo Pop and Contemporary Art Museum, Rotermanni 2.
- Focus: women depicted by Warhol and Lichtenstein, overlooked women pop artists such as Yayoi Kusama and Barbara Kruger, and contemporary practitioners.
- €18 adult / €13 reduced; capacity limited; online sales close 24 hours before the tour. [Official ticket page](https://fienta.com/women-are-pop-themed-tour-at-poco)

This is easy, central and low-friction, but less important to the trip's core questions than Kumu.

## Sunday 9 August — three good versions

### Version 1: city culture + The Cure (recommended if buying the concert)

- 10:00–12:30 — **Kumu**, if not visited Thursday. The AI exhibition closes today.
- 13:00–14:15 — lunch at the **Tallinn Food Truck Festival**, Telliskivi 60. More than 50 trucks plus a concert programme and DJs; the organiser confirms 8–9 August but has not published reliable Sunday hours on its main listing, so re-check before relying on a specific opening time. [Official Visit Tallinn listing](https://www.visittallinn.ee/eng/visitor/see-do/events/events/15062/tallinn-food-truck-festival)
- 14:30–16:45 — rest / Old Town / hotel. Do not over-program before a long standing concert.
- 18:00 doors; 19:00 programme — **The Cure**, Unibet Arena Quarter, Paldiski mnt 104B.

The concert is in the **Quarter**, not necessarily the arena hall; plan clothing for an outdoor event and check the promoter's final practical notice on the day.

### Version 2: free-music Sunday + The Cure

- Morning — Maarjamäe Palace, Song Festival Grounds or Kumu.
- 13:00 — MUBA students Saara & Elsa, Nõmme Vabaduse Park.
- 14:30 — **Some Times**.
- 16:00 — **NOËP acoustic**.
- Leave promptly after NOËP (or before the end if necessary); allow at least 35–45 minutes to reach the Unibet Arena Quarter and its entry queue.
- 18:00 — The Cure doors.

This is the strongest music-heavy day and all afternoon performances are free.

### Version 3: museums, art and an intimate evening

- 10:00–12:00 — Maarjamäe Palace.
- 13:00–15:00 — Kai Art Center; _Exploded View_ closes today.
- 15:10–17:30 — EKKM or the Seaplane Harbour area.
- 19:00 — **Alexei Aigui solo**, Fort Bar, Pikk 43. Aigui is a film composer and improvising violinist; the programme is instrumental, intimate and language-independent. The city calendar confirms the event, but the listing does not give a reliable finish time. [Official city listing](https://huvi.tallinn.ee/sundmus/alexei-aigui-tallinn)

Choose this over The Cure if an intimate improvised/neoclassical set sounds more appealing than a large open-air rock show.

## Booking and decision list

**Decide now**

- Buy **Jaakko Eino Kalevi** (€25) if Wednesday's concert appeals.
- Decide whether **The Cure** is worth €95+ and a long outdoor evening.
- Buy the **PoCo English tour** by Wednesday 5 August at 18:00 if choosing that over Kumu/free music.

**No booking needed / pay there**

- Nõmme Muusikalinna concerts: free.
- KGB Cells English tour: pay at the museum; arrive early because no advance capacity is stated.
- Food Truck Festival: the main listing does not state admission or hours; verify on the organiser's event page before leaving.

**Corrected misinformation**

- There is no usable evidence of a Birgitta performance on 5 or 6 August 2026. The visible _Cyrano_ / _End and Beginning_ pages and 1–11 August programme belong to **2024**.
- Marcus & Martinus is sold out.
- The Cure's cheapest ticket tiers are sold out, but the concert itself is **not** sold out as of the 4 August check.
